Size: Males can be 4-6 inches and females can be 6-8 inches.
Lifespan: They live for 15-20 years.
Caging: A single male needs a 75 gallon tank and a single female needs a 125 gallon tank.
Lighting and Temperature: They need a heat lamp, a UVB bulb, and a water heater. The water temperature should be in the 70s, the air temperature in the low to mid 80s, and the basking temperaure in the high 80s and low 90s.
Substrate: Dirt will work in the basking area and gavel for the aquatic area.
Food: They should eat Reptomin, cichlid sticks, feeder fish, worms, aquatic plants, and vegetables.
Water: Their swimming area should be deep, even for hatchlings.
Handling: To hold, put thumb on the plastron and put forefinger on the carapace.
