Size: 4-6 inches is the size they will grow to.
Lifespan: They will live to be 80 years old.
Caging: A 3 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot indoor pen will work. However the larger the beter outdoor pen is more suitable.
Lighting and Temperature: Basking area temperatures are to be 80-90 degrees and night temperatures should be 70-75 degrees. A UVB bulb and a heat lamp are needed. However, natural sunlight is always better.
Substrate: Leaf litter and compost hay are good substrate.
Food: If kept outdoors, it will eat any sort of small creature including insects, spiders, and mice. If kept indoors, mealworms, earthworms, superworms, waxworms, and butterworms, along with dog or cat food should suffice. Always feed dark green and leafy vegetables like collard, mustard, and turnips.
Water: Misting weekly is needed. Also, a large bowl of fresh water is needed at all times for drinking and soaking.
Handling: To hold, put thumb on the plastron and put forefinger on the carapace. These turtles are very docile and friendly so handling is always a pleasure.
